REPORTS
La Bohème, Grosses Festspielhaus, Salzburg 15. Aug 2012
By Herbert

Yesterday's performance has confirmed and proved what I already thought after the final rehearsal: Watching it on TV gives only a semi-authentic impression of what you see and hear and feel when you attend a live performance at the Festspielhaus.

For example the contrast between the oversized window with its raindrops etc. and the people in front of it. The almost "magical" changeover from one scene into the other. The many details on stage in scene 2 ("Christmas shopping"). Anna Netrebkos' and the other singers' awesome stage presence, when they "fill" the whole Festspielhaus with their voices and their personality - Anna of course more than anybody else.

But also the reactions of the audience, for example when they were absolutely silent for some time after Mimi's death and after the final note - before they burst into cheers and applause. All these details - unfortunately - can't be transmitted by TV, and even less by the radio.

But a recording of this outstanding production is still better, of course, than missing out on it completely, although it is not "the real thing".

Anna Netrebko at the Salzburger Festspiele 2010 and 2012

A first outlook to Salzburger Festspiele 2010 shows that Anna Netrebko sings in at least 5 out of 9 performances of the revival of Gounod's Roméo et Juliette.

Alexander Pereira, new designated intendant of the Salzburger Festspiele, has announced his plans for the Salzburger Festspiele 2012. Among those plans, he intends to stage Puccini's La Bohème starring Anna Netrebko as Mimi and Piotr Beczala as Rodolfo with Daniele Gatti conducting.
