REPORTS
The following report has been written by Herbert:
This performance of "Iolanta" was certainly one of the three best productions I have seen this season. A top cast, wonderful music, which must have affected everbody - and above all Anna, better than ever. Although it was a concert, I was thrilled by her minimalistic gestures which underlined Iolanta's feelings and emotions as a blind person who doesn't know that she is blind and that there is something like light and colours and -as the text says - that eyes are not only there to shed tears. The moment when she begins to see for the first time is so touching and convincing that many people in the audience - me too - couldn't hold back their tears. Apart from that, the great duet of Anna and Piotr Beczala was another moment when they brought the house down. And then the finale - when the singers, the chorus and the orchestra made "a lot of noise", and still you could hear Anna's clear voice above everything else! No wonder that at curtain calls everybody in the house was on their feet for many many rounds of applause. A unique performance! And don't forget - in less than 24 hours she will be performing again in Berlin on the Waldbühne! A true phenomenon.

  1. Blogger "Mostly Opera" is back with some posts after having away for quite long time. Nice review of this show. pointing out good remarks about so me of the singers. I'll particularly agree with her remarks about Anna Netrebko and Alexei Markov. Markov was the first one getting a big applause, both at the generalprobe and at the premiere. Nikitin was also very good.
