Anna Netrebko's baby likes Joyce DiDonato's singing
Joyce DiDonato, who sings Bellini's "I Capuleti e I Montecchi" in Paris with Anna Netrebko, who is on her seventh month of pregnancy, wrote on her blogsite YankeeDiva:
"I forgot to tell you before, don't look at my stomach when you are singing to me!" (It's no surprise that she happens to be a bit pregnant at present....) so I'm thinking, "Oh fabulous - I just played this whole death scene holding her hands and her stomach - great! - I'm making her self-conscience!" and I quickly apologized, to which she replied, "No, no - it's not that - it's that he likes your singing so much he's kicking like crazy, and I don't want you to see that and start laughing!" So the baby likes my singing? That's cool. Maybe they'll name him Romeo in my honor..."

Planned DVDs releases with Anna Netrebko
DG would plan to release a DVD of the Iolanta performances to be held in July 2009 at Baden-Baden with Anna Netrebko and Rolando Villazón, conducted by Valery Gergiev.
DG would be planning to release a DVD of the I Capuleti e I Montecchi to be held in March and April 2009 at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden with Elina Garanca and Anna Netrebko in the leading roles and Mark Elder conducting.
Finally, it would be on the agenda to try to get together Anna Netrebko and Dmitri Hvorostovsky in the leading roles of War and Peace and Valery Gergiev conducting, allowing the release of a DVD of the performance. Unfortunately, until now this has not be possible because of agenda problems. I would not mind to have to wait for a while, just to have all three of them in such a recording!

I Capuleti e I Montecchi, Paris 24. May 2008
The other members of the cast were also pretty good, in particular Matthew Polenzani as Tebaldo. Maestro Evelino Pidó was conducting very well. The production directed by Robert Carsen was a classic one. The red colours on the walls and clothes of the Capuleti were dominant, while Giulieta was in white and the Montecchi in black.
Standing ovation at the curtain call, filled with "Bravi!" mainly addressed to Anna Netrebko and Joyce DiDonato.
Jeffrey Vanderveen attended the performance. Joan Matabosch, artistic director of the Liceo of Barcelona, was also there. Both of them were siting on the same row, just a few rows in front of me, and they were exchanging some words. I asked Matabosch if we will be able to see Anna at the Liceo of Barcelona, but he was not able to confirm or just announce anything for the moment.
At the end of the performance some of us met Anna at the stage door. It was a dinner at the house, so we needed to wait for quite a while, but it was worthing. She came looking really great, very happy and relaxed, with a wide smile and a nice bouquet of flowers.
"And of course, Anna Netrebko was making her Paris Opéra debut in this role, and she was a dream to share the stage with - from her beautiful singing, to her completely involved performance, to the hidden squeeze of my hand as I sang my final aria to her. She is a most generous colleague who enters onto the stage to tell the story holding nothing back, and I do believe it is one of the reasons she is an anointed star in this opera world - I think the audience feels and responds to her generosity and knowing that she is enjoying every note she sings."
Joyce DiDonato
