Generalprobe, Le Rossignol/Iolanta, Grosses Festspielhaus, Salzburg 13. Aug 2011

Today it has been the final rehearsal  for the concert version of Le Rossignol/Iolanta, framed as a Benefit Concert for Japan.

The highlight of the show was Tchaikovsky's Iolanta, with Anna Netrebko singing the title role and Piotr Beczala as Graf Vaudemont. Anna was absolutely stunning! Despite the fact that it was in concert form, Anna was also acting on the stage. The rest of the cast was also at a very good level, in particular Alexei Markov, Evgeny Nikitin and John Relyea. The audience gave a standing ovation at the end of the performance.

After the show Anna with some friends, including conductor Michael Güttler, went to have a drink at the Triangel. Erwin Schrott, who was singing at Le Nozze di Figaro, joined the group later on.

On 8. Aug 2011 it was the first of the two concerts given by the Orchestra dell'Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia at the Salzburger Festspiele. Antonio Pappano was conducting and Anna Netrebko, Marianna Pizzolato, Matthew Polenzani and Ildebrando D'Arcangelo sang the Rossini's "Stabat Mater".

The concert, which was recorded by Unitel Classica in cooperation with ZDF/Arte, was a huge success.

After the concert it was a signing session by Anna Netrebko, Antonio Pappano, Marianna Pizzolato and Ildebrando D'Arcangelo.

The second performance of the run was on 9. Aug 2011. Everyone, from the orchestra and chorus to the conductor and four singers, was in top form. The sound was superb. At the end of the performance everyone in the audience was standing up applauding for several minutes.

Anna Netrebko, Jonas Kaufmann and Erwin Schrott · Stadthalle, Wien 6. Aug 2011

Anna Netrebko, Jonas Kaufmann and Erwin Schrott gave a concert at the Stadthalle, Wien on 6. Aug 2011. Marco Armiliato conducted the Praguer Philharmonia.

Anna was wearing gowns designed by Basler.

This is the second out of a three summer concert tour given by the three superstars and the Praguer Philharmonia conducted by Marco Armiliato. The first concert was an open-air one held at the Königsplatz, München on 29. Jul 2011 and the third one will be held at the Waldbühne, Berlin on 16. Aug 2011.

The programme of the concert was pretty much similar to the one of München. Remarkably, Anna Netrebko sang "Un bel di vedremo" from Puccini's "Madama Butterfly" instead of the Jewel aria from Gounod's "Faust".

REPORT
The following report has been written by Georg Cizek-Graf.
The program was [mostly] the same as in Munich, but the funny thing was the printed programmes were not delivered in time to the audience in vienna. They arrived to Vienna in the morning but were not delivered to the Stadthalle because the owner of the private postal service was on holidays. Every member of the audience could leave his address during the break and will get the programme for free.
So we were surprised by every aria, not knowing the Munich programme. The Stadthalle is not a very good location for that kind of concert, it´s just a concrete building without much charme. The projections in the background of the state created a little atmosphere.
I agree with Herbert, the second part was stronger, and Anna as Leonora was astounding! I hope we´ll someday witness the whole opera! The audience took all three artists to its heart. I was lucky to get to the front for the encores, and the impression was 100x better there to hear the real natural voices, not the amplified ones! Erwin Schrott is a force of nature, he lives the music, the tango. Jonas Kaufmann won the audience especially with his german songs "Du bist die Welt für mich" [from Tauber's "Der singende Traum"] and "Freunde das Leben ist lebenswert" [from Lehár's "Giuditta"] - both made famous by Fritz Wunderlich I guess. And I don´t have to say anything about Anna, i guess that would be preaching to the converted.
I´m so glad that the show in Berlin will be broadcast in TV!
There is a CD out since this week, a compilation with already released recordings of the 3 artists. The only exception is "Les filles de Cadix", an unreleased recording by Anna.
