Interview to Netrebko at the Kurier
Today's edition of austrian newspaper Kurier publishes an interview to Anna Netrebko.
Next saturday, the russian opera diva makes the title role debut in Donizetti's "Anna Bolena" at the Wiener Staatsoper. The rest of the cast features Elina Garanca as Giovanna Seymour, Francesco Meli as Lord Percy, Ildebrando d'Arcangelo as Enrico VIII and Elisabeth Kulman as Smeton. The conductor is Evelino Pidó and the director is Eric Génovèse. The performances run from 2. April to 17. April 2011.
Netrebko confirms in the interview that next season she will sing the role of the Countess in Mozart's "Le Nozze di Figaro", where Schrott will sin the role of the Count, and she will make the role debut as Tatiana in Tchaikovsky's "Eugene Onegin" at the Wiener Staatsoper.
Among the new roles she is planning to sing in the future there are the title role of Puccini's "Manon Lescaut" and Leonora in Verdi's "Il Trovatore". Nevertheless, she points out that, most likely, before singing those roles at the Wiener Staatsoper, she would do it first at a small opera house.
Netrebko unveils that a CD and DVD may be released from the recordings of the performances of "Anna Bolena" at the Wiener Staatsoper. Ö1 radio and ORF2 TV (with a slight delay) will live broadcast the premiere on 2. April 2011.

What was about the announced concert at Salle Pleyel on 31. Jan 2012
On Saturday 12. March 2011 Salle Pleyel was making a public announcement of the new season 2011-2012. Blogger Opera Cake was there during the live presentation and he was posting live the main aspects of the new season. At that point it was announced that Anna Netrebko and Erwin Schrott were scheduled to give a join concert on 31. Jan 2012. Collecting the information provided live by Opera Cake we published here the available information about this concert.
On Monday 14. March 2011, the new 2011-2012 season was published on the Salle Pleyel website. As it had been first announced by Opera Cake and shortly after here, the season included as one of the highlights the concert of Anna Netrebko and Erwin Schrott on 31. Jan 2012. I am aware that people had started to book some performances for the new season at this point. The first surprise came when they had booked for a Netrebko/Schrott concert and instead they got their booking confirmation for a Netrebko solo concert, without Schrott. Just a few days after the official announcement of the new season, Salle Pleyel had modified the information initially provided for this concert, removing the name of Schrott from the concert, while keeping just Netrebko. No further details of the concert, such as the orchestra, piano player or the programme, were given.
On Wednesday 16. March 2011 I got a first reliable information that in fact nor Schrott, nor Netrebko had this concert in their schedules. All the alarms were on! I asked Salle Pleyel to confirm Netrebko's concert on that date and I got their confirmation through their official Facebook site. Further confirmations came to me on the opposite way and, at that point, I was able to absolutely confirm that neither Netrebko had this concert on her schedule. I wrote an email to Salle Pleyel let them know that according to the reliable information I had, the concert they were still announcing was not on Netrebko's schedule. No answers yet from Salle Pleyel about this point. In fact at that moment they still have the concert announced as it was.
According to the information I have Netrebko would be scheduled at Salle Pleyel for a later date.
Meanwhile, Schrott has been confirming all those points through his twitter account: "Anna will be performing at Salle Pleyel later on, but not on that dat,. I'm affraid. Their mistake, not ours"

Pappano is discovering his italian roots
Peter Conrad writes an interesting article about Maestro Antonio Pappano for the Observer on the last Sunday edition of the Guardian. In the article, entitled "Antonio Pappano: I didn't know what I was. Now I'm discovering my italian roots", the maestro talks about the musical soul of Italy, his migration with his family, first to London and then, when he was 13, to the Unitad States of America and his come back, at his 20s, to Europe as an "Italo-American English boy".
Pappano has recently recorded two stunning albums devoted to the baroque music with the Orchestra e Chor dell'Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia di Roma and two de-luxe casts.
The first one, already released by EMI on 1. Nov 2010, is Rossini's Stabat Mater starring Anna Netrebko, Joyce DiDonato, Lawrence Brownlee and Ildebrando D'Arcangelo.
The second one, to be released by Deutsche Grammophon on 18. April 2011, is Pergolesi's "Stabat Mater" and other works, starring Anna Netrebko and Marianna Pizzolato.
Talking about those recordings, Peter Conrad writes in the Observer:

Pappano has returned to the baroque period in a new recording of Pergolesi's Stabat Mater, out next week. It's a plangent, agonised performance, with Anna Netrebko and Marianna Pizzolato emoting at the foot of the Cross – a reminder, like Pappano's recent CD of Rossini's Stabat Mater, that in Italy religious faith is an operatic drama of despair and jubilant recovery.

Wiener Opernball 2011
The 55th edition of the classical Wiener Opernball, the most glamourous event of the year in Wien, was held at the Wiener Staatsoper on 3. March 2011.
The star mezzo-soprano Elina Garanca was the invited guest to sing in the event. She sang an aria of Saint-Saën's "Samsom et Dalila" and the popular Sieczynski's "Wien, Wien, nur du allein".
Among the invited guests, stars from the opera world like Anna Netrebko with Erwin Schrott and his daugther Iara, Tamar Iveri, Natalia Ushakova and Clemens Unterreiner, the fashion stylist Evelyn Rillé and her husband, the photographer Johannes Ifkovits.
Nevertheless, despite the efforts of ORF2 Austrian TV and to the dissapointment of some of the organizers, the spotlight of the event was the stunning 18 years old italian girl known as Ruby, the star invited guest of the austrian millionaire Richard Lugner. Lugner traveled to Genova in a private jet to pick-up his invited guest Ruby, her real name being Karima El-Mahroug, and bring her to Wien. An exclusive full photo coverage was done by austrian photographer Andreas Tischler. In Wien, before the Opernball, Ruby gave a press conference and participated in a signing session at Lugner Kinocity and did a photo call session at the Hotel Savoyen.
