PRESS REVIEWS

Tonight's premiere was a production of DON GIOVANNI I have been waiting for for a long time: clear, convincing, imaginative, touching, with a tremendous cast. In my opinion the ladies - Anna Netrebko, Barbara Frittoli and Anna Prohaska (!) - topped the male singers. Only Bryn Terfel was comparable to them. Thanks to director Robert Carsen for giving Anna Netrebko the chance to appear at her best both vocally and as an actrice.
ReplyDeleteI was mostly dissapointed with the production and in particular when the singers are on the Platea, walking around, even on the presidential box :-) I was nicely surprised wit Barbara Frittoli because she didn't like me in the Met production bradcast some days ago. Tonight she has been very good. I loved Anna Prohaska! And, what to say about Anna... fantastic!!! The first big applause and bravas were for her after her "vendetta" aria f the first act. Terfel was very good, in particular singing the famous "Madamina, il catalogo e questo". Vocally, Mattei was good, but... something was missing to BE the Don. I didn't like it Kwangchul Youn as Il Commendatore.
ReplyDeleteI liked Barenboim. Very good when Il Commendatore appears at the end of the second act.
Oh yes, Anna Prohaska was a surprise! I have never heard and seen such a lovely Zerlina. And for Peter Mattei..., well it is a bit nasty to say that, I know, but coming from Sweden he stood around like a piece of IKEA furniture most of the time. Why didn't Ildebrando d'Arcangelo sing the opening night?
ReplyDeleteLike a piece of IKEA... hahahahahahaha :-)))))
ReplyDeleteIldebrando would have been much better! I'm glad I got my ticket for 20. Dec :-)
Another lovely Zerlina would have been Eleonora Vindau :-)
Gracias Carlos!!!
