Anna Netrebko and Erwin Schrott withdraw from the New Year's Eve concerts in Dresden

Anna Netrebko and Erwin Schrott have withdrawn from the two New Year's Eve Concerts at the Semperoper Dresden on 30. and 31. December 2011.

Anna Netrebko, Piotr Beczala and Erwin Schrott, with Christian Thielemann conducting the Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden, were scheduled on two New Year's Eve concerts at the Semperoper Dresden on 30. and 31. December to perform Highlights from Franz Lehár's Operettas.

A press release, announcing the withdrawal of Anna Netrebko and Erwin Schrott, was published on the official website of the Semperoper Dresden on 30. November 2011. The sopranos Angela Denoke and Ana Maria Labin have been chosen to replace them.

The two concerts were sold out.

  1. Meanwhile there is a press release on the Semperoper website, saying that Anna and Erwin were looking forward to cooperate with Christian Thielemann again, but there was not enough time to rehearse the programme adequately and to perform it on the usual level, etc. Sad news.

  2. I wonder if they have offered the possibility to return tickets... I guess this time it was not the opera house fault, but to sell all the tickets for a concert of Netrebko, Schrott and Beczala and then to give this one instead, it's not fair at all.

  3. I agree with Carlos. Anna and Schrott should have some responsibility for all the audience who bought tickets for them. I am so disappointed for the cancellation.
