  1. I knew it! But both of them? That's sad. Hope Anna stays for Carmen in Vienna.

  2. I've got to admit I didn't see this cancellation coming - a huge shame for subscribers...

  3. After Les Contes d’Hoffmann has disappeared from Anna’s schedule her calendar is empty starting from the beginning of November 2009 and will continue to be empty till February 2010 after she has cancelled Idomeneo in Paris. Isn’t it quite a long period for rest! Should we listen to the OC’s “increasingly insistent voices”? In each gossip there is something true! It seems Tiago has been planned to be Virgin as his mother. Probably, his sister (or brother) is planned to be Sagittarius as her (his) father! It will be great and I’ll be the first to congratulate her! As a mother of a son and a daughter I can assure you every woman wants to have a daughter, not only son, and every woman is more cautious during her second pregnancy. Lets wait and see.

  4. This cancellation is not really a surprise for Villazon. I'm now wondering why Anna left.
Has she renounced to Elettra for now ?

Maybe DG had planned to release a DVD and asked the ONP to let Anna go from this, now that Rolando had to cancel... in order to re-plan this later with the two of them.
Because it's really weird that their cancellation has been announced at the same time.

And I must say that it's a real shame for the ONP that they didn't make an effort to re-cast singers at the same level or with a solid level. Because with all the respect that I can have for Mrs. Iveri and Mr. Workman... there is a world between them and Villazon/Netrebko, and their latest performances in Paris were really painful.
(by the way the staging of this Idomeneo is... let's say... quite ugly and boring ! So without great singers, sorry, but it's just crap - except Mozart of course -)
    Shame on the ONP !

  5. Hmmm...no comment - except to say I doubt if I will ever book an opera ticket in advance ever again...

  6. Now all the cast changes appear at the ONP website.

Villazón withdraw was somehow expected, but not Anna's withdraw. I think that it would have been nice to get an explanation about this. Even nicer, would be a confirmation of all of her other performance's schedule, in particular, Les Contes d'Hoffmann which, for some reason, were DELETED from her official schedule's website.

  7. The Met Hoffmann is not displaying on the "Schedule" page on Anna's official website due to a technical glitch. We apologize for the inconvenience and will fix this ASAP.

  8. Thanks Sean! I really appreciate your comment. Mainly because this helps to switch off rumours of Anna's withdraw from Hoffmann's Met after Villazón and Pape announced their withdraws from this production.

    Best regards,

  9. AL I was aware that this Idomeneo production at the ONP was really awful and people loving very much Anna (and traveling to see her regularly to Wien getting expensive tickets) told me not to go... I would have attended one of those performance, despite the awful production, because of Anna and to see her as Elettra in what would have been her role debut, but now... the ONP should give the chance to get the money back (as they did at the Baden-Baden Festspielhaus for Iolanta after Rolando withdraw) to those who would decide to return their tickets. There are cast changes and CAST CHANGES!

  10. It is really too bad that Anna is dropping this performance. She has sung Elletra in concert with astonishing vigor and intensity. Her recent performances in La Traviata in San Francisco have been uneven We are seeing her on the 28th and will be very disappointed in anything less than stellar.

  11. Les Contes d'Hoffmann re-appeared on her schedule.
But... she is still supposed to sing "Andina" instead of "Adina" in Paris ! lol

  13. Dear Jana,

Unfortunately, right now, Anna and Rolando do not have any concert or opera performance scheduled to sing together... and unfortunately, for the moment, I do not expect them giving any concert together...

Rolando has been out of the stage for almost 2 years. Recently he was subjected to a cyst surgery and he did cancel all of his performances for this year. It is planned that he will be back on the stage in Berlin for Eugene Onegin in March 2010. Further performances of Rolando in 2010 could be in l'Elisir d'Amore in Munich and Milan and a recital in Paris.

Anna will perform at the Met in NY this December and in February. In Europe she will give a concert in London on 18. January 2010, a recital in Berlin on 29. March 2010 and she will sing in different opera performances in Wien (April, May) and London (June, July). I expect that she will be also in Salzburg (August).

    Best regards,
    Carlos
