Breaking News - Piotr Beczala replaces Rolando Villazón in Lucia di Lammermoor on 7. Feb 2009

It was somehow expected. Finally it's official. Piotr Beczala substitutes Rolando Villazón as Edgardo in the performance of Lucia di Lammermoor on 7. Feb 2009. This performance will be transmitted live in HD to movie theaters around the world and live broadcast on Sirius and XM Metropolitan Opera Radio and on the Metropolitan Opera International Radio Network.

    I can't help wondering about this as I see Rolando has also just cancelled three appearances which were scheduled with Anna in Iolantha at Baden Baden next July.

    I prefer Beczala to Villazon, so I was pleased with the replacement. I thought the whole cast was wonderful. This Lucia was the best I've ever seen, I can't wait for it to be released on dvd.
