On the schedule of Anna Netrebko

Anna Netrebko sings Elettra and Rolando Villazón sings the title role of Idomeneo at the Opera Bastille in Paris in January 2010. She is also scheduled at the Opera Bastille in Paris as Adina in L'Elisir d'Amore, with Rolando Villazón as Nemorino, and as Marguerite in Faust, with Roberto Alagna in the title role.

Anna Netrebko sings Desdemona at the Teatro alla Scala di Milano conducted by Daniel Barenboim in 2011. The role of Otello has not yet been assigned!

Anna Netrebko sings Tatiana of Eugene Onegin at the MET of New York in 2012.

Planned DVDs releases with Anna Netrebko

DG would plan to release a DVD of the Iolanta performances to be held in July 2009 at Baden-Baden with Anna Netrebko and Rolando Villazón, conducted by Valery Gergiev.

DG would be planning to release a DVD of the I Capuleti e I Montecchi to be held in March and April 2009 at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden with Elina Garanca and Anna Netrebko in the leading roles and Mark Elder conducting.

Finally, it would be on the agenda to try to get together Anna Netrebko and Dmitri Hvorostovsky in the leading roles of War and Peace and Valery Gergiev conducting, allowing the release of a DVD of the performance. Unfortunately, until now this has not be possible because of agenda problems. I would not mind to have to wait for a while, just to have all three of them in such a recording!

I Capuleti e I Montecchi, Paris 24. May 2008

Stunning premiere performance of I Capuleti e I Montecchi at the Opera Bastille in Paris this Saturday 24. May 2008 with a cast leaded by Joyce DiDonato as Romeo and Anna Netrebko as Giulietta, and Matthew Polenzani as Tebaldo, Giovanni Battista Parodi as Capellio and Mikhail Petrenko as Lorenzo. The conductor was Evelino Pidó. It was a debut's night. For Anna Netrebko it was her debut at the Opera National de Paris and for Joyce DiDonato and Matthew Polenzani it was their role debut. Anna Netrebko made an outstanding performance, both vocally and dramatically. Anna's powerful high notes and breathtaking pianissimi were terrific. Joyce DiDonato made a superb role debut. It was hard to realize that it was just the first time she was singing this role.

The other members of the cast were also pretty good, in particular Matthew Polenzani as Tebaldo. Maestro Evelino Pidó was conducting very well. The production directed by Robert Carsen was a classic one. The red colours on the walls and clothes of the Capuleti were dominant, while Giulieta was in white and the Montecchi in black.

Standing ovation at the curtain call, filled with "Bravi!" mainly addressed to Anna Netrebko and Joyce DiDonato.

Jeffrey Vanderveen attended the performance. Joan Matabosch, artistic director of the Liceo of Barcelona, was also there. Both of them were siting on the same row, just a few rows in front of me, and they were exchanging some words. I asked Matabosch if we will be able to see Anna at the Liceo of Barcelona, but he was not able to confirm or just announce anything for the moment.

At the end of the performance some of us met Anna at the stage door. It was a dinner at the house, so we needed to wait for quite a while, but it was worthing. She came looking really great, very happy and relaxed, with a wide smile and a nice bouquet of flowers.

"And of course, Anna Netrebko was making her Paris Opéra debut in this role, and she was a dream to share the stage with - from her beautiful singing, to her completely involved performance, to the hidden squeeze of my hand as I sang my final aria to her. She is a most generous colleague who enters onto the stage to tell the story holding nothing back, and I do believe it is one of the reasons she is an anointed star in this opera world - I think the audience feels and responds to her generosity and knowing that she is enjoying every note she sings."
Joyce DiDonato

Breaking News - Anna Netrebko cancels some performances of I Capuleti e I Montecchi in Paris

It has not been officially confirmed, but apparently Anna Netrebko has already cancelled 3 out of the 8 performances of I Capuleti e I Montecchi, which she had to perform in Paris from 24. May to 15. June 2008. According to those unofficial sources, Patrizia Ciofi would have been hired to substitute Anna Netrebko in 3 performances, while she would be also there as her cover for the other 5 performances. At this moment, I can not confirm which are the dates of those 3 performances which would have been already cancelled by Anna Netrebko. The ONP has not yet published any information on this topic. The post will be updated as soon as more information becomes available.

Anna Netrebko and Elina Garanca quit IMG Artists

On 11. March 2008 we knew that Jeffrey D. Vanderveen had resigned as Senior Vice President and Director of the Vocal Division in Europe at IMG Artists. A few days or weeks later, any reference to the IMG Artists website was removed from the Anna Netrebko's official website and new contact management references were added. Nevertheless, the names of Jeffrey Vanderveen and Anna Netrebko still were on the IMG Artists website... until a few days ago, when the IMG Artists website data concerning the management of the company has been completely renewed and the list of vocal artists has been updated. Taking a look at the vocal division artists, one may realize that now Anna Netrebko and Elina Garanca do not appear anymore on their list.

Update on 5. May 2008
Written by Rock in the Pond
Apparently IMG had been in the works to acquire J.F. Mastroianni and Associates for some time. They announced that they had acquired Mastroianni a couple of weeks ago. Jack Mastroianni, as part of the deal, would be made head of the Vocal Division, essentially Jeffrey Vanderveen's job.

The rumor, and this is only a rumor, is that Jeffrey found out his position was on the line as part of this attempt at an acquisition of a rival company and decided to look elsewhere.

This next part is not a rumor. Jeffrey was hired by Universal Music Group (Deutsche Grammophon's parent company) to head a division for special events. Anna and Elina left at this time. To me this makes sense because, generally, artists make a relationship with their manager not their management company and artists will leave one company when their manager leaves. Interestingly, Anna has not added any new manager to her website. The ones on her website are the press representatives she's always had.

Now, to make things more interesting, IMG is upset to have lost Anna and Elina. They have filed a lawsuit against Jeffrey and another manager and also with Universal Music, basically saying they had no right to take Anna and Elina and they want their "property" back and all the money they will lose.
