Unfortunately new withdrawals have announced for the upcoming performances of
Bizet's Carmen at the
Wiener Staatsoper. First, it was
Rolando Villazón who had to sing the role of Don José and withdraw from all the performances, being replaced by
Massimo Giordano. A few days ago it was announced the withdrawal from all the performances of the conductor
Mariss Jansons, being replaced by
Andris Nelsons. Today the Austrian newspaper
Der Standard has announced that
Elina Garanca, who had to sing the title role, withdraws from all the performances due to health reasons. Replacing
Elina Garanca will be the bulgarian mezzo-soprano
Nadia Krasteva.
Ioan Holender, Director of the Wiener Staatsoper, has confirmed the rest of the cast for all the performances, including
Massimo Giordano as Don José,
Anna Netrebko as Micaela and
Ildebrando d'Arcangelo as Escamillo.
