Breaking News - Piotr Beczala replaces Rolando Villazón in Iolanta, Baden-Baden

The Festpielhaus Baden-Baden website announces that Polish tenor Piotr Beczala joins Anna Netrebko, replacing Rolando Villazón as Graf Tristan Vaudemont, in the four performances of Iolanta at the Festspielhaus Baden-Baden on 18., 21., 24. and 27. July 2009. Valery Gergiev conducts the Mariinsky Orchestra and Chorus.

Anna Netrebko and Piotr Beczala have been singing together in Rigoleto at the ROH in 2005, La Traviata at the Deutsche Oper Berlin in 2007 and Lucia di Lammermoor at the Met in 2009, replacing Rolando Villazón. They are also scheduled to sing together in La Traviata at the Opernhaus Zürich in 2009 and La Bohème at the Met in 2010.

  1. Their voices match wonderfully, it is a great romantic and dramatic couple. Both Piotr and Anna are good looking, and the winner is the opera world.
